In 2011 Howden acquired Thomassen Compressors BV. If you have a Thomassen product then Howden is your first point of contact. Combined with the Burton Corblin brand, the OEM offering includes reciprocating, diaphragm and periflow compressors.

The Thomassen brand is steeped in history, but quality and drive for innovation remain. Howden is committed to net-zero, sustainability, and circular economy  approaches in their customer’s operations. Therefore we are supporting the growing demand for hydrogen based applications.

100 YEARS OF COMPRESSION AND GETTING GREENER

The history of the Thomassen brand starts when a Dutch citizen named M. Geurt Thomassen first built his own designed 0.5 HP gas engine. His invention was for a Shell contract for eleven gas engines to be supplied into Indonesia.

In 1921, the first reciprocating compressors hit the market, the new technology was so successful that a licence agreement was signed with Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co in Japan in 1960. Between 1955 and 1987, 500 centrifugal compressors under licence of Elliott were commercialized, followed by the supply of gas turbines under license of General Electric from 1968 to 1999. Thomassen Compression Systems BV was founded in 1999 and subsequently acquired by Howden in 2011. Howden can now offer Thomassen Reciprocating Compressors alongside Burton Corblin Diaphragm and Periflow compressors.
