Howden has signed two separate contracts with the energy self-sufficient Tuas Water Reclamation Plant (WRP) Project to supply twenty-four (24) KA blower packages to treat domestic used water.

Howden’s KA turbocompressors will support the Tuas WRP’s vital role within the Tuas Nexus – Singapore’s first integrated water and solid waste treatment facility. Howden’s technology will support various processes, including biosorption, bioreactor, and the membrane bioreactor. And with Howden’s local office and distributor, the team will also provide after-market and warranty services as required to minimise downtime

Harnessing the synergies of the water-energy-waste Nexus, Tuas WRP will co-digest food waste and used water, boosting biogas production by 40% compared to the treatment of used water sludge alone. The energy recovered from combusting biogas will improve the plant’s thermal efficiency as well as generate electricity for Tuas Nexus’ operations. Excess electricity will be exported to the grid to continually power up to 30,000 four-room apartments locally.

Tuas WRP required a reliable solution for its wastewater treatment and with our unrivalled global installation list and local footprint, we could guarantee KA blower packages that fulfilled their critical functions. Our advanced testing verifies that our compressors meet all technical standards before leaving the factory to ensure long-term durability and minimal maintenance.

Harnessing 30 years of manufacturing experience, our KA turbocompressors are the most highly efficient air compressor on the market with their advanced mechanical and aero-dynamical design and cutting-edge control system. Each KA compressor is carefully customised to complement a plant’s needs while consuming minimal required power.

Camille Levy, President of Asia Pacific at Howden

Howden was selected for its impressive track record in installing turbocompressors worldwide, having provided similar equipment to the Singapore Public Utilities Board through locally awarded contractors.

Howden supplies high-efficiency blowers and compressors, and advanced digital solutions for smart aeration systems. With an efficient, reliable aeration system, overall energy expenditure during the wastewater treatment process is optimised, cutting process time and costs. Howden’s diverse range of blowers and compressors enhances the management of effluent from municipal sewage systems and from many industrial processes where liquid organic effluents are produced as a by-product.
