Howden has won a contract to supply ventilation fans for use in the WestConnex Rozelle Interchange tunnels in Sydney, Australia.

Working for contractor JHCPB-JV for Transport for NSW, the contract for part of Australia’s largest road project includes provision of 29 fans to be used across five ventilation facilities in the new underground interchange.  The Axial flow fans, which include 450kw and 335Kw motors, will provide airflow and control ventilation in the underground motorway tunnel.

Of particular note in the solution provided by Howden is the efficiency of the equipment, which will save running costs and reduce energy use and CO2 emissions for the customer. One of the fans is also fire range tested to achieve certification, further expanding Howden’s capability in this area.

The contract to provide fans for the Rozelle Interchange is a great example of how Howden brings solutions that help our customers reduce the environmental impact of their operations, reducing carbon emissions and improving sustainability. It is through projects of this size and significance that we can make a real impact on global carbon emissions.

Ross B Shuster, CEO of Howden

Representing a major contract for Howden Australia, the contract will be delivered by the local team in Cardiff, NSW with its expertise to assemble and test equipment in collaboration with Howden specialist tunnel and metro sites in Australia, China and Spain. Work involved fire certification, aerodynamic testing and acoustic testing which, due to Covid travel restrictions, was livestreamed and recorded, offering an innovative solution to the customer.
