Howden has secured a contract with Azku Global Services, part of the Khudairi Group. Howden will supply two screw compressor packages to Majnoon oilfield, near Basrah, Iraq.

Majnoon oilfield is one of the world’s richest oil reserves, holding the equivalent of 38 billion barrels of oil. Howden’s innovative technology will enable the site operator to realise its decarbonisation goals, while continuing to tap into the abundant oil reserves.

Howden’s state-of-the-art screw compressors packages will be installed in Majnoon oilfield’s flare gas recovery system. Waste gas will be recovered and treated to deliver safe, useable fuel gas, saving energy and minimising carbon emissions. With Howden’s compressor solution, Majnoon oilfield will save 42,242 tonnes of carbon emissions per year – the equivalent of annual fossil fuel emissions for 9,100 cars.

Massimo Bizzi, Chief Operating Officer at Howden said: “As the manufacturer of the world’s first operational screw compressor, we are the leading global supplier for this equipment. Combined with our engineering expertise, Howden was able to develop this best-in-class solution suited to Azku Global Services’ operational and sustainability needs.

“Globally, flare gases account for around two per cent of carbon emissions, so Howden’s compressor technology is critical to the recovery process. We are therefore thrilled to help Azku Global Services decrease its carbon footprint and deliver greater sustainability.”

Mohammed Khaldoun, Vice President at Khudairi Group said: “Azku Global Services collaborated with Howden’s UK compressor division for the supply of the main two compressor packages in this project. We strongly believe that we’ve got to be the best to get the best, and this has strengthened our partnership over the past 18 months during the bidding phase. Howden’s team has shown great dedication and provided AGS with full support during this entire tenure and we are grateful for their commitment.

“This project marks the first collaboration between AGS and Howden in Iraq and we hope this will develop further for future projects. The Howden team is committed to smooth execution and has traveled from the UK to attend commercial and project meetings with our client. This reflects the commitment and the high dedication they have towards this project. With AGS’ expertise and experience in Iraq, combined with Howden’s technology, both join hands together for the successful execution of this project”.
