Every Howden product is backed by an absolute commitment to lifetime support and service that covers all spare parts, troubleshooting, scheduled maintenance and emergency response. We are dedicated to maintaining your plant at peak performance and, above all, keeping it in continuous production.

Wide range of applications

Howden are process specialists in a range of applications whether it be conventional boilers (coal, oil or gas fired) or circulating fluidized bed boilers (CFB) utilizing fossil fuels or biomass. We offer fly ash and multi-pollutant control systems as well as dust cleaning (particulates) and air cooled condensers and cooling towers.

In-House Expertise

One of the most valuable advantages in working with Howden is that you can discuss your requirements with engineers who have a detailed understanding of the workings of power generating plants. You invest in a continuing partnership that gives you unrivalled global expertise in air and gas handling processes.

  • Forced draught fans

Forced draught fans move ambient air at low pressure through the air preheater to provide heated oxygen for the combustion process.

    • Variable Pitch Axial Fans, Centrifugal Fans
  • Induced draught fans

Induced draught fans are vital in maintaining furnace pressure at just below atmospheric pressure. They draw the flue gases out of the boiler into the air preheater.

    • Variable Pitch Axial Fans, Centrifugal Fans
  • Primary air fans

Primary air fans are used to move air through the air preheater in coal and biomass fuelled stations. The size and configuration of the fan depends on the temperature of the primary air.

    • Variable Pitch Axial Fans, Centrifugal Fans
  • Secondary air fans

Secondary air fans feed into the boiler combustion chamber at a higher point than the primary air to promote more complete combustion.

    • Variable Pitch Axial Fans, Centrifugal Fans
  • Steam Condensing

Cooling fans are used to condense steam into water and help to increase the pressure difference over the steam turbine.

    • Cooling Fans
  • Heat recovery

Air preheaters are used to recover heat from flue gases and use it to raise the temperature of air entering the combustion chamber.

    • Air preheaters
  • Mechanical Vapour Compression (MVC)

Howden’s ExVel turbo fan has been developed specifically for Mechanical Vapour Compression – an advanced and efficient process to be used also in zero liquid discharge (ZLD) application to fulfill expectations for environmentally friendly power plant - recycling the vapour during the evaporation process to re-use the energy it contains.

    • Turbo Fans, Lobe Blowers
  • Gas reheat

Gas gas heaters are used to reheat the gas in flue gas desulphurisation plants and SCR systems.

    • Gas gas heaters
  • Gas recirculation fans

Gas recirculation fans help control furnace gas or steam temperature by re-circulating flue gas through a dust collector and back into a particular area of the combustion chamber.

    • Centrifugal Fans
  • Booster fans

Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) or Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) Booster fans help to drive the flue gas through cleaning processes before it is released from the station.

    • Variable Pitch Axial Fans
  • Flue gas cleaning

Oxidation air blowers are associated with the cleaning of flue gases in a Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) by supplying air into absorber or spray tower.

    • Air blowers
  • Fluidised air blowers

Blowers providing fluidising air within the loop seal system on a circulating fluidised bed (CFB) boiler.

    • Air blowers
