Rotary Heat Exchangers and Emissions Controls

Increase efficiency and controls

Howden rotary heat exchangers have a vital role to play in many thermal processes by using waste heat generated from combustion to heat the cold inlet air and so reducing overall energy requirements by enhancing efficiency and lowering fuel use and related carbon emissions. All our heaters are optimised for performance and reliability and offer additional value-add options developed by our R&D team such as solutions for superior heat transfer and low leakage.

We have particular expertise in enabling our customers’ emission control systems such as flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) and selective catalytic denitrification (SCR). These processes prevent gases which cause acid rain (SOx and NOx) escaping into the atmosphere through a plant’s exhaust emissions.

Our products are backed up by a comprehensive aftermarket capability to ensure performance and longevity is maximised within each operation.

Emission Reduction Technology

In many energy intensive industries there is a increase in regulatory requirements to control emissions, the need for this emission reduction technology is internationally applied and in some cases enforced.

  • Power generation
  • Steel
  • Cement production

Built to suit your needs

Heaters are available in many different sizes to suit the gas flows of the plant, with larger bespoke site-built heaters and compact packaged heaters ready to install.

Environmental control

Our heaters are used for gas reheating in environmental control systems (such as FGD and SCR) and additionally our emissions control range includes Rothemühle electrostatic precipitators (ESP) for particle control and DELTA WINGTM gas mixers for maximised ESP performance.

Products

AirPreheater

Air Preheaters

Air preheaters increase combustion efficiencies.  Available with bi-, tri- or quadsector arrangements they are custom designed and installed to meet specific process and site requirements.

Gas Gas Heaters

Gas Gas Heaters

Gas gas heaters aid the SOX treatment process and reduce costs by reheating treated gas to required buoyancy levels. Built with enhanced materials our heaters can perform reliably with aggressive FGD gases and also support tail end SCR

Pre-engineered Heaters

Pre-engineered Heaters

The pre-engineered product range provides a highly efficient, low maintenance solution in a compact footprint. It can handle flue gas flows of under 50 tonnes per hour to around 200 tonnes per hour.

Electrostatic Precipitators

Electrostatic Precipitators

Howden's ESP solution is focused on bringing operating enhancements to existing ESPs through a range of upgrades to full retrofit and replacement. This is based on Howden’s Rothemühle product knowledge.

Delta Wing

DELTA WINGTM gas mixers

An advanced static gas mixer that increases the efficiency of gas handling equipment such as ESP, SCR, FGD, flue gas heat exchanger, boiler, stacks and silencers.

Parabolic Sectorplates

Through continued innovation, Howden have developed the latest Rotary Heater leakage reduction method – Parabolic Sectorplates. Hot End Sectorplates are structurally designed with variable stiffness to deform parabolically, when actuated, to match the shape of the deformed operating rotor. Thereby minimising the hot end leakage gap.
