Tunnel Fans

Fans for tunnel ventilation

Howden’s range of fans for tunnel ventilation has been developed and improved thanks to many years’ experience in the market with multiple brands.

Our axial and jet fan products cover a wide range of performance duties and can be configured as reversible or uni-directional to suit the needs of all tunnel ventilation systems.

Every fan is designed and manufactured to the highest quality standards for assurance of safe and reliable operation in the event of fires and long-term performance. Fans are tested to the most stringent fire safety standards (DIN EN 12101-3 or ISO 27927) to operate at 200ºC/1h or up to 400ºC/2h. Aerodynamic testing of fans ensures performance meets or exceeds all required standards demanded by project specifications.

Our fans can be delivered on a scalable basis including full turnkey and are backed up by a comprehensive aftermarket capability to ensure performance is maximised throughout the life of each operation.

Axial Fans – UMAF or Variax models

Tunnel fan - axial

Axial fans are the preferred technology where large volumes of air are required, and are ideal for tunnel ventilation using transverse or semi-transverse techniques.

  • Flows of up to 400 m3/s and pressure rise of up to 30,000Pa or higher if required using 2-stage

  • Fans set to operate uni-directional or fully reversible

  • Flow control is enabled by blade adjustment either at standstill or during operation depending on model selected and also achieved using a Variable Speed Drive (VSD)

  • Anti-stall option with Ivanov device

  • Fire testing to operate at 200ºC/1h or up to 400ºC/2h (DIN EN 12101-3 or ISO 27927)

Jet Fans – AP series

Tunnel fan - Jet fan

Jet fans are typically used in ventilation systems using the longitudinal technique with single or bi-directional traffic.

  • Flows of up to 50 m3/s with thrust of up to 3360N

  • Fans set to operate uni-directional or fully reversible (uni-directional may also operate in reverse with a lower thrust)

  • Flow control is achieved using a Variable Speed Drive (VSD)

  • Fire testing to operate at 200ºC/1h or up to 400ºC/2h (DIN EN 12101-3 or ISO 27927)

  • Wide range of standard sizes, all incorporating rotors that are dynamically balanced to eliminate vibration and noise

  • Fitted with silencers for outstandingly quiet operation

  • Corrosion protection by either the use of stainless steel or duplex coating
