As COP26 enters the final days of discussion, we are publishing another example of how we are supporting our customers to advance a more sustainable world. Our steam turbine offering which can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 66,600 tons every year.
Our trusted range of Kuhnle, Kopp & Kausch (KK&K) steam turbines are installed to reduce and control steam pressure for the installation and to generate electricity from previously wasted sources of energy.
For sawmill applications, steam is generated in boilers which burn sawmill waste. Howden steam turbines are positioned to support and reduce sawmill waste by converting and reusing its energy. Howden can also supply the generator and condenser, which are the key components of the power plant and production system.
As a result, our customers can harvest renewable energy as a by-product of their sawmill waste to help power the plant, bringing cost savings as well as environmental benefits by reducing CO2 emissions. Sawmill waste has zero commodity value so the project avoids external waste disposal.
Environmental benefits
Howden steam turbines can generate around 200,000 MWh of green renewable electricity per year from sawmill waste. This will save 66,600 tons of CO2 emissions.
