Howden's Mexico team recently secured an $8.5M order for the supply of centrifugal fans and turbo blower packages for the new Dos Bocas oil refinery in Tabasco, Mexico. Following this, Pemex placed an order for the supply of six reciprocating compressors in the amount of $16M.
These wins are a direct result of the collaboration Howden can achieve across our global units. The teamwork between Howden Mexico and Howden's Compressor division and Howden's Thomassen Compressor division exemplifies our Global Resource, Local Presence strategy.

The Dos Bocas refinery is a 340,000 barrels per day (BPD) oil refinery under-construction in Tabasco, Mexico. Capable of producing 170,000 BPD of petrol and 120,000 BPD of ultra-low sulfur diesel, it will be the biggest refinery in Mexico.

State-owned oil and gas company Pemex will be the owner and operator of the refinery. The site preparation work for the $8bn refinery project started in June 2019, while Mexico's environmental regulator ASEA granted a construction permit in August 2019.

This site is scheduled to commence commercial production in 2022. The Dos Bocas refinery project is part of Mexico's National Refining Plan to reduce its reliance on fuel imports from the US.

The Dos Bocas refinery will include 17 processing units including a combined distillation plant, a delayed coking unit, a fluid catalytic cracker unit, a naphtha hydrotreating unit, a naphtha reforming unit, a Sulphur recovery plant, a gas recovery, and treatment facility, as well as a hydrogen-producing plant.

Howden will supply critical equipment for the

Sulphur recovery unit, including:

  • Three main air blower packages (SG Type C-CVC Single Stage Integrally Geared centrifugal compressor packages), assembly in Renfrew, Scotland
  • Four incinerator air blowers (Centrifugal flow fans type L1), manufacturing in the Mexico City, Mexico
  • Six reciprocating compressors

Diesel Hydro treatment plant, including:
  • Six reciprocating compressors.

This project is a living example of our new Howden Mission: we combine our technology and worldwide engineering expertise to design and deliver solutions and services that optimize our customers' air and gas handling processes.
