Sustainability is more than a buzzword. This month leaders from the G7 countries held a summit where environmental matters took a leading place amongst issues discussed. Some of the aims included a net zero G7 by 2050 at the latest, supporting the transition to a low carbon economy and resetting our relationship with nature.

At Howden, we share this commitment, acknowledging that many of our customers within the energy industries are actively transitioning their approach to resource use.

As the demand for energy continues to rise, the ways in which we meet this shift. One example is the use of geothermal resources to provide power for bitcoin mining. This was recently announced for projects in El Salvador. Bitcoin mining is notoriously high in energy consumption, so making use of renewable energy sources is a conscious effort to gain sustainable methods of operating in the modern world.

Howden’s technology retains its relevance to power from renewable sources. A by-product of electrical power generation is waste heat, which needs to be managed. Typically, cooling towers, air cooled condensers and air cooled heat exchangers are used for this purpose and Howden has been a leading specialist in cooling fans used within such cooling systems for more than 50 years.

Whether ensuring the power plants of tomorrow have the most efficient and lowest noise cooling fans or bringing energy savings and life extension to the current power base, Howden is ready to support cooling system OEMs and plant operators with expert advice and leading products and services.
