On the 29th April, Howden hosted their first ever Virtual Apprentice Day to launch the opening of registrations for the Apprentice programme 2021 for the compressors division based in Scotland.
At Howden we are passionate supporters of attracting young talent to our workforce. We believe it is our corporate and morale responsibility to celebrate the benefits apprenticeships bring to our business, to our individuals and the economy. To showcase the benefits of our apprentice programme, Howden hosted our first virtual Apprentice Open Day. The Howden Apprenticeship Programme is an accredited 4-year Craft apprenticeship within our Compressor business. Our apprenticeship programme is an excellent grounding for those wishing to pursue a career in engineering that allow you to develop in many different areas in the engineering field. This event formally launched the new openings for the 2021 Apprentice Intake.

The event was a huge success and gave people the opportunity to learn more about the different career paths within engineering. Delegates were given an overview of the Apprentice programme by Natalie Irvine, UK HR Advisor. Ex-Apprentice Bruce Abernathy, gave a business overview and showcased the products Howden manufacture from our Renfrew facility, as well as how these products impact our world. The event also included some hints and tips given by our current Apprentices for potential applicants.
Apprentices are the foundation of our long-term talent pipeline at Howden. We value diversity, young talent and the part it can play in the future growth of our business. This event was critical for us achieving our diversity and inclusion targets. This event provided attendees with the opportunity to hear from our ex-apprentice Bruce Abernathy, Operations Project Lead, who gave a business overview and an insight into his successful career at Howden. Success stories like Bruce’s, gives us the ability to attract young talent to Howden and provide the industry with the skills needed for the future across manufacturing and engineering, within Scotland and across the UK.
We hope this has inspired you to apply for one of our Apprenticeship openings here at Howden Compressors and to join our business. All recruitment information can be watched on the recorded webinar session via the link below.
