Grit chamber aeration

Removing grit from wastewater is an initial treatment stage and aerated chambers can be used to separate out and settle the grit at the bottom of the chamber. Air is supplied to the chamber by blowers.

Diffused aeration

Biological wastewater treatment using diffused aeration requires the injection of air into the wastewater to oxidize organics and aid the bio-degradation of pollutants. Howden has a wide range of blower and compressor technologies available for every capacity, flow rate and efficiency requirement.

Membrane Air Scouring/Backwash

Membrane BioReactor (MBR) systems are used in advanced wastewater treatment plant. The membranes are scoured by air supplied by blowers to reduce fouling.

Sludge Drying

Sewage sludge can be combusted on-site, shipped elsewhere for combustion or used as agricultural fertilizer. The larger plants and those in metropolitan areas opt for on-site incineration. Fluid bed combustors utilize blowers.
