Sintering and Coking

Providing and recovering gas in the coke oven plant and sinter machine.

In the coke oven plant our oven fans provide the combustion air to burn the coke (mostly carbon).  Howden centrifugal compressors in the coke-oven by-product plant exhausters remove the by products such as sulfar, phenol and ammonia.
In the sinter plant our forced draught combustion air fans support the combustion process before our cooling fans are used to cool the product. Hot air is recovered and returned to the process and dust is controlled using specialist Howden fans.

Comprehensive, Customized Services

Every Howden product is backed by an absolute commitment to lifetime support and service that covers all spare parts, troubleshooting, scheduled maintenance and emergency response. We are dedicated to maintaining your plant at peak performance and, above all, keeping it in continuous production.

Bespoke Packages

Some of today's most arduous applications for Howden products are found in the iron and steel industry. The need to move large volumes of air or gas, in many cases at high pressures and high dust burdens, places stringent demands on the mechanical design of the impeller.

In-House Expertise

Our fans are highly efficient designs, reducing power consumption in an energy intensive industry, while operating in high temperature and erosive environments. Our extensive experience in each application enables us to provide equipment of great reliability with the consequent reduction of unplanned outages.

  • Sinter waste gas fan

The sinter waste gas induced draught fan draws the off-gases through a dust removal system e.g. an electrostatic participator.

  • Cooling fan

To provide fresh cooling air to cool down the hot sintered product after the sintering process.

  • DeSoX – DeNoX fan

The DeSoX – DeNoX induced draught fan draws the off-gases through SCR and FGD systems to clean the gases before releasing them to the atmosphere.

  • Combustion air fan

To provide air by a forced draught fan from the wind boxes along the sinter strand for combustion of the carbon mix.

  • Hot air fan

To recover heat from the hot sintered product, and return it to the sintering process, to improve process efficiency.

  • Dedusting fan

To collect the large quantities of dust generated in the sintering process that can then be recycled as a process input.

  • Coke oven fans

To provide combustion air for the coke oven.

  • Gas booster fans

To remove the off-gases from the coke oven.

  • Coke oven by-product compressor

To collect saleable by-products (light oil, sulfur, tar, phenol, ammonia) in the coke-oven by-product plant exhausters.
