Gas Processing (LNG GTL)

Howden products play an important role supporting the treatment and processing of gas into all saleable products whether natural gas, LNG or GTL.

LNG is a main energy source for power generation and transportation fuel.  Howden products support multiple processes within onshore and offshore (FLNG) production facilities.
In a gas processing plant, there may be multiple trains or production units processing a wide variety of gas feeds.  From the moment the gas enters the plant to exiting as a saleable product, compression is needed to transfer the gas through the process.
Howden products are used extensively within gas treatment - boosting and recycling gas in acid gas removal, sulfur recovery and tail gas treatment units; providing air for combustion and cooling; regenerating dehydration systems; and processing refrigerants in cooling applications such as dew point control and NGL recovery.
Power supply onsite is often provided by gas turbine generators.  Howden compressors enhance the efficiency of gas turbine generators by boosting fuel gas and cooling inlet air.
Howden fans ensure buildings ventilation and aeration, combustion air, desulphurization, incineration and process cooling.

  • Gas processing / Feed Gas Compressor

Certain gas plants may not have the required pressure of gas entering the plant process units and so require a low pressure inlet system. Compressor used to increase the pressure of gas coming into the plant for liquefaction.

    • Screw compressors
  • Gas processing / Flash Gas compressor

Also known as low pressure compressor. Used to recover gas flashed from the separators to the process (condensate removal unit).

    • Screw compressors
  • Gas processing / Off Gas

Compressor used to recover the gas contained in the liquid (condensate) after the separation stage.

    • Screw compressors
  • NGL treatment / Overhead

Compressor used to recover NGLs from the gas stream.  If using mechanical refrigeration method - refrigerant compressor. And recycling overhead from fractionation towers (deethaniser).

    • Oil injected screw compressors
  • Gas processing / Regeneration Gas

Compressor used to recover NGLs from the gas stream. If using mechanical refrigeration method - refrigerant compressor and recycling overhead from fractionation towers (deethaniser).

    • Centrifugal compressors
  • Gas processing / CO2

Also known as acid gas compressors. Used to process CO2 recovered from the treatment section and then potentially inject into storage points (e.g. underground) in order to reduce CO2 emissions. Howden supplies CO2 Boost oil injected screw compressors.

    • Oil injected screw compressors, Compressor Centrifugal
  • Gas processing / Liquefaction Pre-Cooling (OSMR)

    Refrigerant. Liquefaction Pre-Cooling (OSMR).

    • Screw compressors
  • Gas processing / SMR mixed refrigerant processes

Mixed refrigeration system for smaller capacities use a range of compression technologies. Howden supplies oil injected screw compressors  for the mixed flow refrigerant unit.

    • Oil injected screw compressors
  • Gas processing / Helium plant

Compressors are used to process the crude helium prior to liquefaction. Howden supplies oil-injected screw compressors.

    • Oil injected screw compressors
  • Liquefaction/C3 Refrigerant compressor

Compressor used within the process the refrigerant gas circulated within the cooling system required to liquefy the gas into LNG.  Depending on the process used this could be processing propane (C3), ethylene, methane or a mixed refrigerant. On some processes ammonia pre-cooling can also be used.  Propylene may also be used as refrigerant for re-liquefaction.

    • Oil injected screw compressors, Centrifugal compressors
  • Liquefaction /End Flash Gas compressor

Compress low pressure gas vapour after the liquefaction process and feed it to the fuel gas system or other processes (when vapours are from storage tanks, this is BOG).

    • Centrifugal compressors
  • Liquefaction/Boil off gas compressor

Compressor used to recycle gas that is formed from the LNG held in storage tanks for use as fuel gas or reliquefaction back into LNG and storage (or to export pipeline).

    • Screw compressors
  • Process cooling

Site utilities/Cooling ACHE Air Cooled Heat Exchanger. Process cooling.

    • Cooling fans
  • Desuphurisation Incineration fan

    Combustor & start up.

    • Centrifugal fan
  • Site utilities/Fuel Gas turbines

Site utilities/Gas turbines are commonly used for power generation and drives within LNG facilities (typically under 50MW). Modern gas turbines (Heavy frame) generally operate at 35-42 bar g, while Aeroderivative turbines operate at 48-69 bar g. To reach these operational pressures the feed is often required to be boosted. Howden supplies oil free or oil injected screw compressors. Howden deliver also HP recip and centrifugal compressor solutions.

    • Oil injected screw compressors, Oil-free screw compressors, API618, Centrifugal Compressors
  • Site utilities/Turbine Inlet Cooling

Site utilities/Turbine Inlet Cooling -  TIC refrigerant compressor. Howden provide API oil-injected screw compressors.

    • Oil injected screw compressors
