Renewable fuels


Ethanol and biodiesel represent the big part of renewable fuels in global energy demand for road transport. Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) has been identified as one solution to reduce Green House Gas emissions for air transportation. Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) is a production process for these environment-friendly bio jet fuels and biodiesel. These biofuels can be used in engines without the blend walls or modifications.

Biogas upgrading process deliver high quality bio methane and is the renewable natural gas option for energy companies. 

Howden work with fuel suppliers, ports, shipping companies and airlines to help them answer the growing demand for alternative and renewable fuels. Howden compressors, blowers, fans and steam turbines have key roles in renewable fuels production processes.

 

Renewable Fuels Applications

Howden products serve the critical production processes that contribute to building integrated decarbonisation and sustainable value chains areas resulting in renewable fuels, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage (CCS) and syngas productions.

Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO)

Renewable fuels, from bio feedstock such as Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), are being developed in new plants or in new refinery units. Fuel is produced from feedstock such as waste oil, fats, municipal waste.  Howden equipment is supporting critical processes within Bioplants and HVO units producing Renewable Diesel and SAF from bio and waste sourced products. The processing of renewable feedstock involves high-pressure hydrogen compressors to feed continuously reactors of large volumes of gas. Howden’s blowers can provide variable air volumes to SRU and water treatment process. Our screw compressor technology feeds PSA with gas and recover the tail gas.

Biogas treatment PSA
