World Refrigeration Day 2019

Everything You Need To Know about World Refrigeration Day 2019

Welcome to the very first annual World Refrigeration Day, said to be “the coolest day of the year” taking place this year, and every year hereafter, on 26th June.

A day dedicated to the celebration of refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pumps.

If you haven’t heard of it yet then don’t worry - we have all the information you need right here.

The Details

When is it? 26th June 2019
Where is it? Across the globe incl. USA, Mexico, Ivory Coast, Italy, Germany, Spain, UK
Who is behind it? Steve Gill, past-president of IOR (Institute of Refrigeration)
Who is supporting it? The big hitters are REFCOM, CIBSE, AREA, and the UN Environment Programme
How can I get involved? Share the hashtags #WREFD19 and #WorldRefrigerationDay. And make sure to tag your post @worldrefday
What does it promote? The significant role refrigeration, air-conditioning, and heat-pump industries and technology have played globally throughout time.
What does it want to achieve? To raise awareness and promote the advancement of refrigeration technologies.

What Is World Refrigeration Day All About?

Steve Gill, the man behind the idea for the day, put it best when he said:
It is intended that World Refrigeration Day will serve as a means of raising awareness and understanding to the general public of the significant role that the refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump industry and technology play in modern life and society.

With such a long and fascinating past full of inventors, experiments, pioneers, and entrepreneurs from all over the world - Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat-Pumps (RACHP) deserve to have their valuable contribution praised and honoured.

From this - a hope to start a new conversation that looks towards the future of refrigeration and how it can continue to evolve, increase efficiency, and reduce the environmental impact of this technology that we all use in our daily lives.

What Do I Need To Know About Refrigeration?

Well, it isn’t just refrigeration - it’s also air conditioning and heat pumps - conveniently coined RACHP for those in the know.

You might not notice it until something goes wrong, but refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pumps impact almost every aspect of modern society in our day to day lives.

And it isn’t just keeping your drinks cool and your food fresh (although that is a huge part of it). RACHP products and technologies cover everything from medical and farming, to process engineering, data and IT, to renewable heating technologies and more.

Pretty important, right? Yet RACHP is still a hidden technology that can often get overlooked.

World Refrigeration Day aims to change this.

Stephen Lisk, CIBSE President said:
"As we seek to reduce the global warming impact of refrigerant gases, we need research and innovation of new technologies and processes to minimise the negative impacts whilst enhancing the daily benefits of cooling systems.

“World Refrigeration Day...is a chance to explain the many benefits that refrigeration has brought to the world over the last century. It is an opportunity to recognise the achievements of the pioneers of early refrigeration and to celebrate the developments that continue today.”

How Can I Get Involved In World Refrigeration Day 2019?

There are tons of ways to get involved in World Refrigeration Day from participating in Facebook Live events and webinars to attending the official exhibitions that are hosted across the world.

You can tweet, follow, like and share any content you enjoy by using the hashtags  #WREFD19 and #WorldRefrigerationDay. And make sure to tag your post @worldrefday so that you become a part of the global conversation.

I see you have a lot of other cool stuff available in Refrigeration?
. Your idea of sharing the information about air heater is very good activity.

I can see in my country there are many heat sources gone to the atmosphere, by the other hand we need to much space of cold warehouses to storage protein and others, in our country all the adiabatic cycles to produce cold is electricity and compressors to condensate the refrigerant gas. and in my country is a large deficit of electricity.
I would like to start changing the formula.....first generate electricity by burning natural gas and supply the national electric grid, in the other hand use the heat from generation plant for cold warehouse next to the plant using absortion chillers, or adsortion chillers. that way the balance of the country will change by being efficient and autonomous in electricity, and having much more cold warehouse space to hold proteins and produce for the population.
I will need technical support to invest in a absortion-adsortion chiller. I allready have a ten megawatt cogeneration plant, where the exhaust gases are going to athmosfere .
