EGR22 compressor has received Marine Approval certificates

It is with great pleasure that we can announce that our largest and newest member of the EGR family, the EGR22, has received Marine Approval certificates, issued by the American Bureau of Shipping, ABS.

A Marine Approval comprises a design assessment, a factory quality certification, and a witnessed test of operation. In order to prepare for this certification, the EGR22 went through intensive testing over a two-month period at the Howden Turbo R&D Test Facility in Frankenthal, Germany. The testing was conducted in an elaborate test rig, set up to simulate the conditions on a ship. The tests were a great success, and with the Marine certificates in hand, the EGR22 has now been approved for installation in vessels throughout the world.

The EGR products are used in marine diesel engines to reduce emissions. The first set of EGR-22 units, consisting of two compressors, has already been shipped to the end customer in Korea, and we are pleased to inform that more orders have been received.

Details about the compressors

The EGR compressor is a one-stage, direct driven, centrifugal turbo-compressor with oil lubricated bearings, an asynchronous motor and a variable frequency drive.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) is a method to significantly reduce the formation of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) in marine diesel engines.

By using this technology, vessels are able to meet with the IMO NOx Tier III standard emission limits applying to the North American and United States Caribbean Sea as well as any new NOx Emission Control Areas (NECA), allowing EGR equipped vessels to sail in these areas. Depending on the size of the ship engine, up to 4 EGR blowers per ship are utilized to reduce the emissions.

The EGR22 is the largest and newest member of the EGR family, now comprising the EGR 5, EGR10 and EGR22.
