Vacuum Cleaning / Vacuum Systems

Vacuum Separators

Organizations regularly call on central and stand-alone vacuum systems to do some heavy lifting when it comes to cleaning spaces and equipment found in industrial, institutional, commercial and municipal settings. To protect your investment in an industrial vacuum system and allow for maximum convenience and performance while it is in use, it is often wise to take advantage of specialized separators — such as centrifugal vacuum separators.

In their most basic form, industrial vacuum separators can be described as purpose-built containers that are strategically placed somewhere between the vacuum producer and the vacuum point. To protect the overall vacuum system and increase its performance, separators — like industrial vacuum dust collectors — efficiently collect materials such as fine powders, dust and other forms of debris before they have the chance to clog or damage vacuum filters and components.

We have been providing businesses with innovative vacuum systems and solutions for well over a century. In that time, we’ve developed a full range of vacuum separators designed for almost any vacuuming application you can think of. From separators that can remove abrasive materials before they hit a vacuum’s filter to wet separators capable of removing liquids from a vacuum’s air stream, we have the equipment you need to work safely and productively.

Centrifugal Designs

Our centrifugal separators typically provide an initial separation process before a filtration separator can conduct even finer debris collection. These powerful separators are usually equipped with a removable dirt can or hopper bottom for easy disposal of collected material.

Our high-efficiency separators use a cyclone action for enhanced dirt removal or pneumatic conveying. We also offer other centrifugal designs, including drum-top pre-separators and various liquid separators for use in wet vacuum systems or dry systems where they intercept liquids to prevent system contamination.

Filtration Designs

We regularly supply filtration equipment to boost the capacity and efficiency of our vacuum systems. We employ only the most effective techniques such as two-stage separation. For instance, a tubular filter bag separator can be installed downstream from a centrifugal separation unit to trap over 99 percent of the remaining solids — including even difficult to capture powdered materials.

Additionally, our Jet-Clean® design adds pulse-type filter cleaning, which can be used with filter bags or cartridges. Once installed, automated sequential cleaning allows the separator to operate continuously.

Special Designs

With Howden’s engineering expertise, special designs are never a problem. From simple modifications — such as adjusting a separator’s height to fit in a factory’s mezzanine space to adding oversized trapdoors to allow bulky material removal — to complex challenges requiring unique engineering designs, we have the in-house expertise and advanced manufacturing facility to deliver turnkey solutions.

Examples of our special designs include immersion separators with water filtration chambers capable of safely handling sensitive flammable materials. We also provide Bag-In/Bag-Out separators that allow for hands-off filter changes — thereby protecting operators when collecting toxic substances such as arsenic powder.

Options & Accessories

To allow for specific functions, safety requirements, and operating conveniences, we make dozens of specialized separator components and accessories. For example, discharge valves can be added to a system to support continuous or post-shutdown emptying of collected materials.

Also, we offer explosion relief ports, vacuum gauges, sprinkler head connectors, motorized filter bag shakers, debridgers, support frames, grounding systems, and special fittings. Ultimately, we offer everything necessary to support your efficiency and wellbeing while using our systems.
