Environmental Activities and Policies
Howden supplies many industries such as oil and gas, power generation and mining that play a huge part in man’s relationship with the environment. Our technology and know how helps enable these industries to operate in a less environmentally harmful way.
Howden’s environmental policies
The high efficiencies attained by our products can help minimize emissions for each unit of production. More directly our equipment is used in emissions abatement. Flue gas desulphurization (FGD) plant, for example, enables power stations to operate more cleanly; our fans, blowers and heat exchangers are key components of such plant. We supply air blowers for waste water treatment and our compressors are in service on many flare gas recovery installations
We recognize the potential environmental impact of our activities and endeavor to manage our operations in such a way that any adverse effects on the environment are kept to a minimum by, for example:
- Complying with the legal and regulatory environmental requirements in all the countries in which we operate
- Minimizing our use of materials and promoting recycling and reuse where practicable
- Disposing of any waste products produced by our operations in such a manner that they do not harm the environment
- Investigating any environmental related incidents and implementing agreed corrective actions
- Working with our customers and suppliers to develop solutions to environmental problems
Environmental accreditations
All Howden business units not so far accredited to ISO 140001(for environmental performance) are working towards gaining accreditation by the end of 2008.
