Howden Compressors to make major investment

Howden Compressors Limited, the Glasgow based manufacturer of screw compressors, is undertaking a major investment to increase capacity and streamline production processes. Over £4m will be spent in acquiring new machine tools and extending the test facility.

Demand for the company's products has been growing over the last two years. Production is now nearing the limit of existing facilities. The new investment will enable demand from existing markets to be met as well as that from planned market development worldwide.
 
Additional milling, grinding and boring machines will be installed in the factory in Craigton for the manufacture of the twin screw rotors and compressor casings. These machine tools, incorporating the latest technology will perform operations more efficiently than the existing machinery that has been in use for many years. This will improve work flow and shorten lead times resulting in higher throughput and reduced cost. They will also give improved capability for producing the large specialist compressors required for oil and gas industry applications.
