HOWDEN UK’S CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE DIVISION CELEBRATE SUCCESS WITH 5 STAR STATUS IN HEALTH AND SAFETY.
The British Safety Council presented Howden Construction & Maintenance (C&M) Division with its 5 Star Health and Safety Audit certificate at the recent Health & Safety Award Ceremony at the Vintners’ Hall, London.
Howden Construction & Maintenance, based at Kingswinford in the Midlands, scored highly on the audit across all areas including health and safety policies, planning and management, communications, workforce engagement, inspection and audit.
On receiving the award, Nigel Francis, General Manager said, “Over the last 3 years the Five Star Audit has helped us tremendously in improving our health and safety performance. By targeting weak areas highlighted during the audits, our quest for continual improvement is being satisfied. We have also experienced a considerable increase in the enthusiasm of our site supervisors and workforce throughout the business. We can also boast, to date, we have not suffered a lost time accident in the last 811 days. This achievement is undoubtedly due to the heightened awareness of all our employees brought about by the Five Star experience.”
Julie Nerney, Interim Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, congratulated Howden C&M on the high standards which merited the award of 5 Stars. She said, “The BSC congratulates Tom Conde, Nigel Francis and Howden colleagues for their enthusiastic and positive health and safety culture. Howden C&M have an impressive record in preventing workplace accidents and ensuring their workers are kept healthy and safe. The BSC looks forward to continuing its important relationship with Howden and helping to ensure that its managers and staff have the competence and expertise to ensure health and safety risks are effectively managed.”
This is the supreme accolade from the British Safety Council, marking exceptional performance in risk management, adherence to best practice and meticulous reporting. A company must be able to demonstrate a culture of safety management that extends from the shop floor right up to the boardroom to be considered for the award. The assessment process is wide-ranging and rigorous and the award reflects the importance that Howden attaches to health and safety throughout its activities.
