Howden UK Awarded ASME Nuclear Accreditation

HUK Nuclear Products Department underwent a successful audit by an ASME Survey Team in early February 2009 and was awarded an unqualified Certificate of Authorisation. 

The scope of the Certificate is; ASME ‘N’ Construction of Class 1,2,3 & MC vessels for which overall responsibility is retained and for which fabrication and installation are subcontracted to appropriate Certificate Holders. The Certificate essentially allows HUK Nuclear Products Department to design and procure vessels for ASME nuclear applications using a certified supplier to carry out the fabrication and testing on behalf of HUK.
 
It has taken about a year of hard work by members of the Nuclear Department to write an ASME Quality Assurance Programme and a suite of Implementing Procedures in accordance with the ASME Code. The process controls had to match the code requirements but also reflect the HUK working practices. A significant staff training programme was also necessary to ensure a full understanding of the ASME code. We have, as is required, retained the services of an ASME Authorised Inspection Agency and the services of a Registered Professional Engineer. This new accreditation will allow HUK to bid for ASME vessel work associated with the proposed new nuclear build programme in the UK and abroad.
