Howden Technology
Howden Technology, based in Renfrew, is the core research and consultancy arm of Howden. With specialists covering many disciplines, from creep analysis to advanced acoustics and CFD, we provide a key service to all Howden companies.
We are also engaged in research activities driven by a desire to enhance our existing products and to maintain Howden as a leading supplier of air and gas handling equipment. From studying fan noise reduction to addressing large impeller dynamics, we have a team of highly experienced engineers capable of operating in the most demanding of technical arenas.
Many technical investigations are complex, and on occasions require a multi-disciplined approach. We are adept in such situations and are well positioned to draw on experience from inside and outside Howden. We can operate effectively in handling such complex situations by linking to other organisations with specialist knowledge.
We work with the best people in each field. These include:
Ohio State University, USA; Cranfield Institute of Technology, UK; The UK Welding Institute; The FORCE Institute in Denmark; Imperial College London, to name but a few.
We are well placed to handle technical investigations in the following specialist areas:
- aerodynamic and mechanical development
- fluid flow analysis using computational fluid mechanics software
- elastic finite element analysis (static's and dynamics)
- non-linear elastic plastic finite element analysis
- fatigue/fracture mechanics analysis
- failure investigation
- site trouble shooting (Including site vibration survey and analysis)
- noise problem advice and investigation work
In addition we have an in-house capability for performing complex fluid flow analysis work using Fluents computational fluid mechanics package
