1880 The Bryan Donkin Co pioneers the use of gas boosting at Beckton Gas Works in the UK.
1902 The Bryan Donkin Co moves to Chesterfield, England.
1910 The Bryan Donkin Co commences manufacture of turbo-exhausters and blowers based on the
Rateau principle.
1938 James Howden & Co Ltd
is the first licensee of the screw compressor from Svenska Rotor
Maskiner (SRM) in Sweden
1961 Oil injected screw compressors are developed
1991 A Process Gas Division set up within Howden Compressors to focus on the supply of screw
compressor packages.
1996 A new generation of high efficiency single stage turbo blowers is introduced by Donkin.
1997 Howden acquires the blower division of the Bryan Donkin Co that becomes part of Howden
Process Compressors.
1998 A joint venture is formed whereby Carrier Corporation of the US acquires a stake of Howden's bare
shaft screw compressor business. The packaged compressor business (Howden Process
Compressors) remains wholly owned by Howden.
