Case Study: Howden modifications to the air heater at the 2400MW Longannet Power Station reduced both fouling and leakage and increased plant availability.

Industries

Howden Compressors serves the refrigeration industry and the process gas handling requirements of the oil and gas and petrochemical industries. Over 25,000 Howden screw compressors have been supplied worldwide.

Our compressors are used in many medium and large refrigeration applications in the food and drink, recreation and leisure industries, and for various types of gas cooling.

The oil and gas industry relies on our compressors for handling hydrocarbon gases. They are used for boosting the pressure of natural gas on offshore platforms or gas treatment plant and for recovery of flare gas VOCs (volatile organic compounds).

Many industries have combined heat and power plants based on gas turbines. or use gas turbines for stand-alone power generation.  Where the fuel gas pressure is low, our compressors raise it to the required inlet pressure.

Picture of a Chemical Plant Chemicals
The demands placed on equipment in the chemical industry are particularly high. Toxic, corrosive and unstable gases are frequently a part of chemical production processes.  Maintaining the purity of gases being handled is a priority in the pharmaceutical and biological industries...

Road sweeper featuring Howden fanEnvironmental Industries
As environmental protection becomes increasingly important, Howden equipment plays a significant part in many applications that are of direct environmental benefit on land, air and water.

Industrial Gases
Howden diaphragm,  piston and  screw compressors are to be found in a wide variety of applications handling all types of industrial gases. The extent of this is illustrated by the following examples.

Mining
Whilst the normal operational demands placed on mine fans may not be as severe as in other heavy industrial processes, the consequences of malfunction are acute. Howden axial and centrifugal mine ventilation fans are designed first and foremost with safety in mind.

Oil and Gas
The oil and gas industry provides a wide range of challenges for rotating plant; extreme temperatures, high humidity, saline atmospheres, and remote locations being just a few. Howden provides high integrity fans, blowers and compressors that are well suited to such conditions and where the highest...

Howden Group HQ Renfrew Other
Howden fans, blowers and compressors are used in a variety of applications throughout industry, ranging from providing air for combustion, process aeration, fermentation, drying, cooling and conveying; for extracting dust or fumes, and for handling any type of unusual gas.

Petrochemicals
The petrochemicals industry provides the widest range of challenges for rotating equipment.  Howden fans, compressors and blowers operate in conditions encompassing  extreme pressure and temperature, and handle a wide range of gases containing aggressive and toxic components. Demanding...

Power Generation
Power generation demands the highest levels of performance and reliability. Howden fans, heat exchangers and blowers are no exception to this, operating at peak performance for years between outages. Having been part of the power generation industry since its inception, Howden has supplied over...
