Specialised Services

Howden Australia has the capability to offer specialised services to support our products both during installation and throughout the life of the plant.

Our service engineers are trained in the following special areas:

  • Fan Dynamic Balancing – Field balancing utilising portable dynamic balancing machines. Our engineers are trained in the correct placement of weights and appropriate weld procedures to suit the highly stressed components of our fans.
  • Shaft Alignment and Line-out. All fans require careful set-up, levelling and alignment to ensure satisfactory operation for the very long life-times expected for our equipment. Our service engineers are experienced in levelling, packing, laser and manual alignment techniques.

In addition to our routine services and products we can offer solutions to problematic applications that can’t readily be solved by conventional troubleshooting techniques

Active Balancing

The Howden/Baladyne Automatic Fan Balancer is the most effective solution to control vibration in out of balance fans where erosion, corrosion or build-up cause frequent or unplanned stoppages. With a smart controller continuously monitoring vibration and the balancer ring permanently mounted on the shaft, the automatic fan balancer detects increases in vibration levels and automatically makes balance corrections when the fan is running. The automatic fan balancer is a revolutionary product for fan vibration control.

Remote Monitoring

We have developed a fan remote monitoring system capable of locally logging multiple channels of data and automatically downloading the information regularly to a computer server in any Howden facility. Thus fans at inaccessible sites can now be monitored with minimal cost using a satellite based mobile phone link with up to 24 channels of data available to inspect at any time. The system is able to stream real time data such as bearing vibration, allowing remote dynamic analysis. In this way the fan system can be monitored for such things as foundation bolt looseness etc. In the event of a significant change of any parameter, the system can automatically post a notice on the fan’s web page. Remote monitoring can also be used to trend data and identify when the equipment should be inspected.

The Data Monitor is a stand-alone unit and is battery backed with up to 24 single ended analogue inputs. The unit will allow a stream of high-speed data to be sent back for in-depth-analysis of the vibration signals.
